Learning online doesn’t have to cost a fortune. It doesn’t have to cost anything. As a mom on a budget with kids at home, I had to scour the internet to find the best kid-approved fun and educational websites for them. Here are a few that we love.
Speakaboos is a great website. It features read-a-long stories and sing-a-long songs. Kids can choose from different categories of stories like Animals and Food. The stories are set in video clips that kids can follow along with as the story reads and the words are highlighted. The website lets you sample about 10 videos for each session.
2. Curious George
Did you know Curious George has a website? This famous monkey has his own website that features games, stories and videos. There is a theme about each month that changes and features games and stories according to that theme. The website is easy to use and educational, featuring things like measuring games, counting games and art games.
3. Oxford Owl
This is one of my favorite websites because it features over 100 free eBooks. It’s very hard to find free eBooks online especially for kids, so this is a valuable resource. It’s a British company that produces it so many of the stories are narrated by British actors. You can read the books over and over and turn the pages as you go.
ABCYa features lots of fun and educational games. They emphasize education for the preschool learner much more than most websites. Kids can practice counting, subtracting by popping balloons, typing with zoo animals and spelling. Each game is simple enough for younger children to follow along with.
Starfall is another surprisingly fun and educational website that is free. It features activities for all subjects. Kids can learn more challenging math concepts like word problems and geometry but they are presented in a way that’s simple enough for preschoolers and kindergarten. What I enjoy most from this website is there read-a-long books. Not only do they read the books with words presented on the page but kids can click on each word to hear just how it’s pronounced.
