A hot summer day can be an amazing thing. People are able to go to the beach and parks to enjoy some quality time with family. After about a week of constant heat this joyous experience can turn into something out of a horror movie. Every summer the same issue arises: how to beat the summer heat. There are several ways that you can get away from the heat and not go bankrupt due to the high energy bills.
The Mall: Malls all across America can serve as an oasis in this heat. These places are very well ventilated and are one of the nicer places to visit when it’s hot. The biggest issue with malls is the parking. With so many people going to the mall, the parking structures are often filled and become annoying rather quickly. You can avoid this by taking public transportation. Once you reach the mall, beating the heat becomes a breeze. There are countless activities that you can partake once you’re in there.
Pools: Pools are both fun and help beat the heat. Not to mention that they can provide a great workout. Unfortunately, not everyone has a pool in their backyard. For those not fortunate enough to own a pool, the Parks and Recreations departments provide affordable access to public pools. There are some that are completely free and others that have a fee. You can look up your local parks and recreation’s website to look at special rates that they may offer. There are special rates for seniors, children, and countless other groups of people.
Go to School! Summer and school don’t necessarily sound like a great pairing. Summer classes offered in community colleges and universities include swimming classes. These classes are great for those wish to learn to swim and want to cool off. For those who already know how to swim, most community colleges offer an advanced swimming class that is aimed at those that wish to improve their swimming skills. Classes are also a great way to escape the heat. College classrooms are air-conditioned so that students are comfortable when they are learning. If you don’t want to necessarily do any work for the class, you can audit the class. This way, you can just sit in, cool off, and learn all at the same time.
Finally, always remember to drink plenty of water and to keep an eye on the elder and young members of your families.
