The rainbow fades to shades of gray,
The lighthouse beacon dims,
I choke upon the spurs and tangles
Flayed open to Fate’s harsh whims.
And yet, I cannot lay me down
To whisper prayers and meditate
For all alone, this stretch of path,
I must walk. I must walk.
So I reach within me, for fortitude and pride,
For I will not be a bad example
To the loved ones by my side.
They are my love, they are my life,
I carry on for them, my stride gets long
My shoulders lift, I stare into the strife.
How dare it squash my will so strong.
And so the battle looms before me
Weakening my intent, resolve,
But step by labored step, I walk
Until the wicked blues dissolve.
