A person might be surprised to find that, even though she might not be a true artist with canvas or another medium, she might be quite the artiste when it comes to food. So many food dishes are easy to prepare while helping you to make a fabulous presentation for a party or other special occasion. So, what’s the occasion? Mother’s Day? A garden party? A brunch with friends? Well, don’t leave out the bagel when you’re planning the special foods. It can be turned into a gorgeous flower – quite edible, of course – for that fun day. A bagel flower is colorful, can be made from different foods, and looks wonderful in a vase with others. The bagel flowers almost look real – from a distance – but as your guests approach, they’ll see the beautiful, yummy treats, which are irresistible.
Most people don’t make their own bagels; unless you do, purchase some at a favorite bakery, or at the grocery store. You’ll need one bagel for each flower that you want for the party. If the bagels aren’t already cut, slice each one in half.
Spread a generous amount of cream cheese on each half of the bagel to create a “glue” for the flower. At one place on the bottom slice, lay a wooden skewer, and position the end of it a small space away from the bagel hole.
Slice large strawberries and turn them into the petals on the flower. On the bottom bagel slice, align the strawberries around the bread by starting and ending next to the skewer, and putting the wide end of each strawberry slice into the cream cheese. Put a small, whole strawberry in the very center; it might require extra cream cheese to hold it in place.
There are various bagels, different spreads, and assorted fruits, that can be used to make an arrangement of delicious, edible flowers. Besides cream cheese, a tasty spread might be Nutella, or peanut butter. The bagel can be raisin, onion (afternoon or evening party), or any other type. The fruit can be banana slices, blueberries, raspberries, or others. The creations can even include cold cuts and cheese, a vegetable spread, and chicken or tuna salad, depending on the flavor of bread that you choose.
Stand the wooden dowels in a vase to display the yummy bagel flowers for a garden party, wedding, or other event. Or, glue a half-ball of Styrofoam in a flower pot, cover it with rocks, Easter grass, or other material, and stick the dowels into it. The bagel flowers will grab attention but will be all gone by the end of the party!
