Let’s look at some simple recipes for babies over one year of age. My son has texture issues, meaning he will not eat much table food yet, so at one year of age I find myself having to get creative as buying baby food from the store was breaking the bank.
Mango Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
1/2 cup baby oatmeal
1/4 cup formula or cows milk (optional)
Wash and peel the mango and place in a blender followed by the banana. Add the oatmeal and formula or milk, depending on the consistency your baby prefers. More liquid for a thinner smoothie, less or no liquid for a thicker one. Now blend it up and serve! My son loves this smoothie cold, I keep the mangoes in the refrigerator for this reason. Makes 1 serving or about 10 ounces.
Apricot Peach Yogurt Puree
1 cup yogurt (any flavor)
1 banana (optional)
Wash the apricots and peach and cut out the seed in the middle, place in blender. Add one cup yogurt of any flavor your baby likes. A banana can be added to thicken the puree and mild the flavor a little bit, depending on how ripe the peach is it can make it a little tart. Now blend and serve. This puree can also be put into an ice cube tray and frozen to be given as a yummy treat. It’s great for teething babies. Makes 1 serving or about 7 ounces.
Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
milk or formula (optional)
Peel and place 2 bananas in the blender, add peanut butter and yogurt. Blend up and serve. Milk or formula can be added to thin it. This is another of my son’s favorite breakfasts. Makes 1 serving or about 7 ounces.
