Jenna Hamilton is still reeling from Matty McKibben’s revelation to her last week. He is adopted and only found out because he found the papers in the garage. She thinks that Matty has let her in and is more emotionally available to her. However, her thoughts of Matty are quickly derailed by being introduced to her new mentee. While she believes she will be mentoring her mini-me, turns out she is mentoring a tattooed bully of a rather hefty build named Prudence (but you can call her Angel). Shock to the system.
Jakara is officially over. And while on the outside the two seem ok, greeting each other nonchalantly in the hall and at lunch, neither truly is. Tamara immediately quizzes Jenna on what she has heard about Jake dumping her because, “it’s all about who controls the story.” Jenna for her part wonders if the two ladies spend too much time obsessing over Jake Rosati and Matty McKibben, to which Tamara just says no. She lectures Jenna on her status with Matty as well, asking if the two are dating or merely mating.
Because Jenna doesn’t know, she approaches Matty and accidentally poses the idea of being friends with benefits (even though she clearly wants to get back together and won’t admit it to herself, let alone Matty). Matty of course enthusiastically agrees.
Peer Mentoring has begun. Jenna is linked with the devilish Angel, Lissa with a Muslim girl, Tamara with her mini-me, Eva with a young girl who dresses like a young Mennonite, and Sadie with the new foreign exchange student from España. This should be interesting! Eva immediately starts teaching her mentee to slut it up saying “I need less virgin and the bus stop and more whore on the floor.” Jenna and Sadie are asked to act out a scenario to help with the bullying between their respective mentees, Jenna rather than responding to Sadie’s hateful words gives her a big bear hug and says “it’s not your fault.” Sadie repeatedly shrieks “bad touch! bad touch!”
In the lunchroom, things get interesting when Jake begins singing his newest song “tomorrow never comes and I keep waiting on…” on repeat which sounds less like tomorrow and more like Tamara. Tamara freaks out and confronts Jake to no avail. Tamara is livid that Jake is Taylor Swifting her but can’t do anything to stop it.
Meanwhile Lacy and Val go on a little besties adventure to a spa that has the slogan “eat and wax,” needless to say the skewers of meat and the Brazilian Wax in combination is unsanitary and both get severe rashes. Matty shows up at Jenna’s door as she is trying to counsel her mentee who asks if hooking up with three guys in one night is ok. As Jenna tries to compel her mentee to act virtuously, Matty grabs her a kisses her passionately. Her mentee sees it and Jenna cuts off their conversation to focus on Matty. While Jenna wants to hang out and watch a movie, all Matty wants is sex. Just then, Lacy barges in asking for Jenna’s pain killers to help with her waxing incident telling them it’s worse than the time she had crabs. The mood killed, Matty bails leaving Jenna stung that he only wanted the hookup.
In the cafeteria the next day, the break-up battle continues. Jake has a fan page and has blocked Tamara from being able to see his online accounts. He continues to strum the melody of his “tomorrow” song in front of his groupies and invites them all to his house for a party. Tamara attempts to pull her mentee out of the groupie club and claims that a mandatory mentoring meeting is being held at Jenna’s house that night. Lissa is as usual, easily persuaded. She begins wearing the hijab that her mentee wears as part of her religious practice and is learning about Muslim culture. Sadie admonishes her for looking stupid of course in true Sadie fashion.
Tamara once again lectures Jenna on her Matty status telling her that if all Matty wants from her is sex that she is not a friend with benefits but merely a f-bleep-. Jenna takes the lecture to heart, and while she is trying to show Angel that the path she is taking will lead to ruin by showing her the haunts of her junior year, she sees Matty sitting alone in his truck in the parking lot. She sends Angel away and goes to talk to Matty. Matty keeps trying not to talk and just to hook up and finally he tells Jenna that that’s all he wants right now and if she can’t handle it to tell him. Jenna is furious and tells him she can’t handle it, slamming the door behind her. Jenna finally stood up for herself and would couldn’t be more proud.
Back at the Peer Mentoring meeting, we get to see the progress each mentee has made. Sadie’s exchange student is now an exact replica of Sadie although instead of saying “you’re welcome” after every insult she says “de nada” in her native tongue. Angel goes next and says, inspired by Jenna and her awesome mom, she finally has set a goal for herself. Her goal? To be 16 and Pregnant. Jenna, Lacy and Val are horrified. And the meeting ends there.
Tamara begins cyber-stalking Jake creating a fake profile and chatting with him as if she is a groupie who stumbled onto his fan page. This just spells future disaster. And finally Jenna goes to Matty’s house to try to talk to him and Eva answers the door sending her away as if she has some sort of claim over Matty saying he really just isn’t up for company and just needed to talk. Looks like Jenna may have been replaced. What happened to the sweet Matty McKibben we used to know and love? Find out more next week, Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 on MTV.
