When it comes to bands, especially in the rock world, splitting and splintering are nothing new, band members leave one to form another for many different reasons and it happens so often that it’s almost expected that a split of some sort will happen eventually. (neontommy) With all the bands that have split over time, it’s been shown that no band is immune to the disease, even a band as big and powerful as Metallica had it’s falling out at one point, although they seem to have come out stronger on the other end as a result. (metalinsider) Egos are always going to be big in music, you’re all vying to be the star, all looking for the most adoration from fans, so at some point something is going to happen where one person feels threatened by another member and as a result one of them is ousted from the band, it’s an age old tale in rock and roll. (entertainmentscene360) When a band splits, or relieves a member of their duties, typically there is a chasm between the one who stayed and the one who left, with each side having their own take of what happened and both sides avoiding one another at all costs, a la Axl Rose and Slash. (blabbermouth)
The typical splintering of a band could be tested in the coming year with the impending release of a new Slipknot album, a band that saw one of the primary forces in their sound removed when Joey Jordison was fired. (nme) While this would seem like the big story, a new wrinkle has been added to the mix with Jim Root being ousted from the band he and Corey Taylor shared on the side, Stone Sour. (metalinjection) While some people would say this doesn’t seem like the biggest of deals, when you consider the two men are both still primary members of Slipknot it makes things a bit more awkward. (theprp) While it’s unclear what role, if any, Taylor may have had in Root being removed from Stone Sour, it’s still likely to be an awkward deal knowing that Root isn’t happy about being ousted from a band he and Taylor shared before they joined Slipknot. (wikipedia) As a fan of both bands, it was a blow to learn Root wouldn’t be back with Stone Sour, his ability was great, and his personality showed through on stage, hopefully he’ll be back where he belongs someday, but as of this moment it appears that the band is undergoing a bit of a transformation, let’s just pray it’s not for the worse.
