Okay, I know it sounds weird. You are working so hard trying to get your Avon business going, or you have so much business it is hard to keep up, and I am asking you to keep a journal. You have time in your life to do that, right? Yes, you do. There are just things that we have to make time in our life in order to reach our goals and keeping a journal is one of them.
Journaling could be a lot of fun and done in so many ways. However, this is not a for fun journal, but rather a way of tracking what works and what doesn’t, whether or not you are on track for meeting your goals, etc. This should be your thought in black and white on what you are thinking about your business. In this journal you are writing to know that you are going to reread often. You need to take time to write each day, and you need to take time to look back each day. You might be looking back at just one day, one month or even a year. If I were you, I would keep a table of contents or tabs, if this were not a digital journal, so that you can easily find things.
You can use this journal to keep track of many things including your customer list, or debits and credits, and many other things. It does not have to be a bound journal like you would find in a store nor does it have to be a digital journal. You could keep you journal in a 2″ inch or however thickness that can be decorated to suit your needs. The journal can have tabs in it to keep everything organized.
I really believe that journaling is a very important part in running a business. I always keep my journal with me. I keep a notes section where I keep notes from webinars, telephone conversation, YouTube videos, and everything in the realm of learning how to run my Avon business better.
Journaling for business purposes is not limited to an Avon business of course. It can be used for any business that you work for even if you work for corporate America. You will be able to see your success or your not so good times, what worked the best and what did not work so well, when you were your happiest and when well you get it. Sometimes when you reflect back on the past, you learn a lot from it. Journaling just allows that in an organized fashion.
A unique section in my journal is my customer list that I briefly mentioned above. However, it is not just a list of customers. I keep a detailed list, almost like a database. I keep their most frequent bought items with item numbers so that I can look to see when their favorites are coming on sale and use this as an opportunity to boost business.
Journaling is not for everyone. However, I urge you to just try it for a few weeks. If you take time to either go shopping looking for the right bound journal or put a journal together with sections to add your personal touch, making it yours with a little bit personality, it will make it fun and inviting to write in. Then you can look back on a regular basis and decide what could be changed to make you more successful in how you run your business.
