The ever expanding Marvel Universe has more than enough room for new characters and one that might be on the horizon is Ms. Marvel. Carol Danvers was an airforce major that gained her superhuman abilities after an encounter with an alien superhero. She began to discover her abilities shortly after the encounter ionized her body and changed her physical structure. Danvers molecules were merged with an alien ionic energy that became the source of her superhuman abilities.
The Kree have been introduced in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and will have a major role in events for Guardians of the Galaxy. Danvers gained her superhuman abilities when she assisted Captain Mar-vell, a Kree warrior, who worked closely with the Avengers during the Kree war. The powers and abilities that Danvers gained mimicked that of Captain Marvel and she took on the name Ms. Marvel.
Powers and Abilities
Ms. Marvel has the ability to project blasts of concussive force from her hands. These blasts would be similar to Iron Man’s Repulsor Rays. These blasts have incredible force and can be fired in rapid succession.
Strength and Endurance
Ms. Marvel was given superhuman levels of strength and endurance through the ionic energy merged with her body. The energy becomes a source of ongoing stamina and endurance which allows Danvers to push her physical limits beyond human ability.
Ms. Marvel is invulnerable which means that she cannot be harmed by most conventional means. Her body is virtually indestructible and she can withstand a great deal of physical punishment. This is a direct result of the restructuring of her molecular structure.
Ms. Marvel can fly other long distances and because of her strength she can use this ability to carry others over short distances. She can fly over shorter distances with much greater speeds. Danvers uses this ability to create a devastating form of attack that combines her flight speed and her superhuman strength.
Ms. Marvel became immune to most poisons and chemical compounds that might cause her harm. Her immunity also allows her to resist the extremes of heat and cold. Also Danvers is immune to most illness and disease.
Ms. Marvel possesses a form of precognition that allows her to have an active defense against personal attacks. This ability is limited and does not always protect her from an attack.
Ms. Marvel lost much of her power when she had an encounter with the power absorbing mutant Rogue. The prolonged exposure to Rogue’s touch made Danvers lose her ionic signature for a period of years. The energy makeup of her body was restored and her powers returned. Ms. Marvel could take the place of Captain Marvel in the Thanos saga and be part of the Avengers story line. Could there be a Ms. Marvel feature in the works? Could we see Ms. Marvel added to the Avengers team roster during the third film in the series? Time will tell and as Marvel’s phase 3 becomes increasingly clear, more heroes are emerging.
