You can call me nostalgic, but my favorite WWE Era will be always the Attitude Era. I remember in 2000 when I started to watch wrestling. The Rock and Triple H were wrestling for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and Chris Jericho was wrestling against the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle and other midcarders that in the future became WWE World Heavyweight Champions. The midcarders always had an interesting storyline. It doesn’t matter if the match was for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship or for the Intercontinental Championship. The matches were always interesting because the storylines were elaborated with the proper care and dedication to give the fans what they deserve: a 5 star match even if it was for the Intercontinental Championship.
Sadly, the PG Era enter after the Ruthless Agression Era and all the true Intercontinental Champions died symbolically with the Attitude Era. The PG Era Intercontinental Champions included: Santino Marella, Kofi Kingston, Wade Barrett, the Miz, Curtis Axel and now Big E Langston. Some of this champions are very talented, but their feuds are insignificant and much of them defend their championship in the Pre-Show of the Pay Per Views. Is very sad, because most of the Intercontinental Champions in the past became WWE World Heavyweight Champions. In the PG Era, the story was different and the Intercontinental Championship was as prestigious as the Light Heavyweight Championship.
However, there are still great news. Well in some sense, because in the New Era that some call the Reality Era, but I like to call the Surreal Era, Bad News Barrett is gaining favor for the fans and the company finally has decided to push him. Hopefully he will win the Intercontinental Championship Tournament and then defeat Big E Langston for the Intercontinental Championship. Lets hope that Bad News Barrett have a better Intercontinental Championship this time and this is the start for the proper treatment of the midcarders. The golden ticket for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
