Depending on where you live, you could see scorching hot temperatures as early as May. It’s time to get into the pool! Oh, you don’t have one? That’s too bad but it doesn’t mean that you can’t go swimming this summer. You just have to make a pool. Don’t think that you can do it? You absolutely can! There are several pools that the average person can make, whether for a young child, or for the whole family.
If you have a child that wants to play in the water, but you have no pool, look to the tub. No worries over a sunburn and the child can have plenty of fun. Throw in a couple of toys and let the water play begin. Okay, your kid isn’t happy with the tub idea? Get a large plastic bin (you might already have one), take it outside, and fill it up. A small child might even have room for a friend.
Got a pickup truck? Then you have a pool! Purchase a large piece of plastic or a tarp. Lay it over the truck bed, use your feet to push it down and around the inside of the bed, and then fill it with water. No, there really isn’t any room for swimming but relaxing in cool water – and having room enough for several people – will be fantastic!
Have rectangular hay bales dropped off at your house, get a few friends together, and move them to form a square or rectangle. Cover with a tarp, walk it down, push it around the inside, and there’s your pool. To drain it, simply move a bale or two, and let the tarp down. No money for hay bales? Use a different type of heavy object to form a perimeter that is at least waist-high, such as plywood, held by garden timbers.
If you can mortar bricks you can build an unusual pool for your backyard. Lay bricks in a circular pattern, as if you were building a well, and you can build a stable pool. Don’t go too large since there is no draining system (one can be installed, though).
When summer arrives, air conditioning is nice, but it doesn’t get you outside. Go outdoors and play in the water. Whether you’ve built a truck bed pool that will only be up for the day, or a hay bale pool that can stay up much longer, you’ll stay nice and cool, and you won’t be stuck indoors!
