As you can see, Stanley is driving about town like a maniac during the rush hour traffic. He received a call from the office that a girl Clarrisa was trying to surprise him along with his family. He said he could only stall them for so long.
Stanley doesn’t know what time it is, nor does he really care, he just has to get to his “home” as fast as possible. You see, at this very moment, Stanley’s girlfriend is heading over to his “place”.
Herein lays his problem. And despite wearing a suit, and looking smart. He really isn’t.
The address that Stanley’s girlfriend knows is actually that of a local drug dealer. See, Stanley never intended to get close to Clarrisa. She was intended to be a one night stand, so he lied about where he lived. He also told her that he was an estate planning attorney who handled dying people’s wills and also Porsche. However, he soon finds himself in love with her, and continues to build his false relationship on that sturdy lie.
As you can see, he is completely and utterly screwed.
He also told her when they met that his name was Carlos. He’s not sure why he did, but we can be sure that whatever reason he is deciding on, is an incredibly stupid reason.
As you can see, Carlos, I mean, Stanley, is being panicky.
“WHY?!” Stanley is yelling at himself, as he slams his fist into the steering wheel in frustration. To other drivers, it looks like he is fighting his horn, and the horn is winning. We’ve seen this guy at rush hour. Sitting in his own bubble, and completely oblivious that he is giving the rest of traffic quality entertainment. “WHY!?!? WHY?!!? Of all days!!?! Stupid eighteen wheeler!!! Damn ambulance!! Clear that freakin wreck, COME ON?! What is this crap?!”
As you can see, Stanley has anger issues. He continues to rage at himself for another five minutes, as every second his car stays still speeds up his death. The exit he needs is only half a mile away, yet traffic on the freeway is at a complete standstill. He has half a mind to leave his car right there, but he didn’t own another car or Porsche waiting for him. This crappy 2000 Sunfire with different color doors is what he relies on for transportation.
So he decides to head onward onto the shoulder and tries to floor it ahead of everyone else. Damn the consequences, and everyone else in his way. That’s the healthy kind of thinking that is going to get him out of this mess, he thought to himself. Seriously. This is the thought process that goes on in his head. How many rational people that aren’t in politics can think that way and are successful?
And as you can see, the unfortunate side effect of Stanley’s gamble causes him to run over some glass and other debris from the wreck and punctures a tire. He hits a pylon, which embeds itself on the passenger side of the windshield. Once again, Stanley’s anger continues to get the best of him. Yet at this point, poor Stanley is about two minutes away from his “home”. He decides to floor it again, damn common sense, and continues driving on the rims.
What Stanley doesn’t realize, is his girlfriend has invited her entire family as well to his “home” and planned to go out together to get to know each other. Something Stanley is not exactly excited or even ready to do. Stanley never told her that he wanted a serious relationship with her, yet somehow she got the idea they have become something serious.
He pulls his vehicle into his friend’s apartment complex with sparks still flying from his wheel. The sparks fly off his rims like a crazed welder and almost blinds the family. They shield their eyes from Stanley’s stupidity. He noticed his girlfriend’s family from the pictures she showed him, they were waiting for him, with smiles at first, however their faces turn into confusion. They expressed the look that one makes when he witnesses someone peeing on their car for no reason. The official “what the hell?” look.
As you can see, the only thing Stanley can do at this point is say “crap” as his carefully constructed house of cards falls apart, again. He hopes that just may, just maybe the foundation of his house of cards would remain standing and he can piece it back together.
Stanley pulls into his driveway, completely aware of the impending doom at this point, and that his lying has brought him here. With each lie, he hammered a small nail into himself. This time, the nail was heading straight for his heart. He was expecting to hear them scream at him for his infidelity. The crowd of people staring at his now destroyed car. He hesitates and sees something pink floating out of the corner of eye, it was a balloon.
“Surprise! Happy Birthday!”
As you can see, in all the chaos, Stanley completely forgot what day today was, it was his birthday. A man who forgets his birthday, is a man who will forget everything else. He will forget his mom’s birthday, and especially his girlfriend’s. He cannot even be honest to himself to remember his own date of birth.
As you can see, with all the lying, he accidentally told the truth about his birthday. He confused truth with a lie, and could not identify which was which now.
As you can see,
Right in the heart.
