I’ve talked a lot about article marketing and the positive effect it can have on business success. If fact, article marketing is once again making a comeback after all the hype about making a fortune with PPC (pay per click) advertising. As many marketers will attest, PPC can cost you a fortune if you’re not careful, and for most, it’s too “hit and miss.” So, back to article marketing.
Your very own backlink builder
With the regular and sometimes devastating algorithm changes in the search engine arena, it’s nice to know that still, backlinks are an important benchmark the engines use to rate your position in their respective search results pages. Those backlinks tell the engines how popular your site is, based on the number of other websites linking to yours. Article writing is very effective at providing backlinks, and best of all they’re free. The more you write the more backlinks your site will receive. It’s like having your very own backlink builder!
One thing to remember about backlinks is your content needs to be interesting and informative, or it will never be shared. If it’s not shared, you won’t receive any backlinks from this source. Backlinks also originate elsewhere such as from authority sites that are interested in your work, or you could literally ask the webmasters of related sites to place a link on their site, linking to yours, and vice versa. Regardless of how you go about this, the backlinks you receive from article marketing are best in my opinion. That’s because your readers are showing confidence in your material, so much so they’re willing to tell their friends how to find you. Then the engines pick up on this and rate your site accordingly.
Mix it up
There’s nothing wrong with writing about several topics, as long as your information is accurate and well researched. Always include a link back to your site via an inline link in your body copy. What’s more, encourage your readers to link to your site by asking them to. This isn’t unprofessional or pushy. If they like your article, they just might be very happy to spread the word. The search engines love to see that many different sites link back to yours. Remember, while backlinks from authority sites carry the most weight with the engines, several hundred from other sources is also very good for ranking reasons.
Quality and Relevancy
Of course, your content must be relevant to your topic and/or website for the best effect from article marketing, but the quality of your work must shine all the time. Always watch grammar, punctuation and spelling. If your article is hard to read or doesn’t make sense, you’re not doing yourself any favors ranking wise. The idea is to make your efforts payoff as much as possible. So, keep your content interesting, engaging and relevant. Most of all, write for your readers first.
