Apple has been rumored to be working on an HDTV for quite some time now. After all, it’s one of the few areas the computer giant hasn’t secured yet. An Apple HDTV would definitely be an amazing piece of technology, and could possibly be the next big thing on the companies radar. How might an Apple HDTV impact the video game industry, though?
It’s often been wondered why Apple hasn’t made a video game console to rival the products put forward by Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. Indeed, an Apple video game console would be a huge development in the video game industry. Perhaps with an Apple HDTV, a foray into the video game market would be possible without a physical console, but instead downloadable apps.
An Apple HDTV could have serious implications for both the television and video game markets.
Smart TVs have become relatively common, with consumers favorite apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu Plus built in for easy access and usage. An Apple HDTV could capitalize on the vast apps marketplace it has at its disposal, making your favorite games like Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, and many others available directly on the big screen. Devices like an iPhone, iPad, or iPad mini could all function as controllers for the games, although it’d be easy for Apple to make a traditional controller to be used as well.
With an HDTV, Apple could penetrate two markets, the television market and the console video game market. It remains to be seen whether or not Apple will even make an HDTV, but if the company does go that route, the console video game market is just the next step over.
