Akron has a rich history going back over 200 years, so it really isn’t surprising that the “Heartland” folks who live in the area also have a rich – if unassuming – love of vintage and antique representations of that history. It is common to see some small piece in the window or on the counter of local shops or displayed in homes that dates back to a bright spot in that history Akron is so well known for: the Ohio and Erie Canal, the stoneware era, marbles, oat mills & factory, railway, rubber, airships, railroads, and the list goes on. Akron is the birthplace of so many “firsts” and inventions, which feeds in to the pride of the history of the place. It is a unique area, filled with Midwest, hometown folks who have a fondness for art, culture and state-of-the-art contemporary things as well as the historic bits of the past.
