Hoping to hit it big on the next episode of Antique’s Road Show? Well, if your cache of old, but special needs a new infusion then peruse some of the most bountiful antique shops in North Florida. Yes, we do love our secret treasures in the River City and whether your new piece is a priceless find or just priceless to you, these local dealers of the ‘tique have got something to satisfy your heart’s desires. I have spent many a Saturday afternoon wandering these shops looking for my next great find. All of these shops are located in my favorite Jax neighborhood Riverside. All are conveniently located on the Jacksonville Public Transportation route which includes trolley service. Riverside is a very walker and bike friendly ‘hood so feel free to ditch the gas powered vehicles for this visit. Each spot has a distinctly unique flair and a few even have a hint of mystery to bring the intrepid antique seeker back again and again.
#1. 5 Points Antiques-1046 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida
Hours: Mon-Sat 11am-6pm
5 Points Antiques is the place for those that crave a little funk with their antiques. Sitting right in the heart of Boho Riverside this place gives off a definite rock- a- billy flair. The staff offers just the right amount of welcome without the added dose of hover. This is certainly my favorite spot to find vintage vinyl and well-worn musical instruments. If you are ready to bring your retro funk/ zydeco/ polka band
into fruition hit 5 Points Antiques first for a little inspiration. This store frequently has specials of the day so check in often to grab a deal.
#2. Fans & Stoves Antique Mall-1059 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida
Hours: Mon-Sat 10am-6pm Sun 11-6pm
Fans & Stoves also sits on the artsy cool Five Points block. The large glass storefront is packed to the brim with strange possibilities. I dare you to visit this store and not ask yourself at least once, “What is it?” Unique functional art finds are likely here. Fans and Stoves is huge and it’s easy to spend hours just wandering from section to section. Be sure to check out the jewelry cases because their selection of quality vintage pieces is vast.
#3. Simply Sweet Antiques– 537 A Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida
Hours: Mon-Fri 10am-6pm Sat. 10am-4pm
Simply Sweet Antiques is the newest addition to the Riverside antiques family. I passed by this location several times before actually visiting, but, was drawn there by the daily care put into the outdoor display. The name is quite appropriate because from the rocking chairs in the front of the store to the gingham touched decoration inside this store screams “sweet”. There is always a table outside the front door that beckons the timid shopper to stop, browse and yes come on in. Once inside you can’t help, but, to feel as if you’ve stepped into your Gran’s dining room. Wooden tables and buffets are meticulously lined with dishes, tureens, and other assorted china findings. This is the place to search for the “missing piece”. The cup or dish that used to be a part of Great, Great Aunt Sally’s set might be here.
#4. Southern Crossing Antique Mall– 2718 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida
Hours: Mon-Fri 11am-6pm
Every antique lover has a favorite treasure trove and I have to say that Southern Crossing Antique Mall is definitely mine. Perhaps because stepping inside this store is like stepping into some exotic bazaar with mysterious trinkets around every corner. The space itself is colossal with each section filled by an individual seller. Many of whom are on hand to tell you the tales behind their goods. Some of these tales are far more exciting than the items themselves and some are downright monkey’s paw creepy. The sellers are as diverse as the antiques they offer and that adds to the fun of shopping at Southern Crossing. Visit this shop when you have plenty of time and ready ear.
Whether you are new to the fun of antiquing or a daily devotee a visit to one or all of these shops will leave you well sated…until your next visit.
