It’s time to start planning for The Fourth Of July. If you’re in or planning to visit southeast Michigan, here are the best things to check out in Ann Arbor. Each item on the list contains a handy link to find out more.
24th Annual Jaycee’s 4th of July Parade – The local charitable group is holding its annual parade downtown on the 4th. This event includes community participation – such as a spirit award for teams marching and a chance for children to ride in the parade on their decorated bicycles. This year’s theme is “Heartbeat Of America”. The parade begins at 10 a.m.
Firecracker 5k – Get your morning run in with a little more pizzaz than usual by joining in the fun of a 5k through the Diag. Registration is available online and the race starts at 8 a.m. There is also a 100 meter kids run for the little runner in your life.
Hudson Mills Metropark Fireworks – Start your celebrating early by attending the fireworks on July 3rd. A DJ will be there to kick off the party at 7 p.m. followed by a pyrotechnic extravaganza that starts at dusk. The park fills up quickly; park staff suggests arriving early.
Ann Arbor Summer Fest – From the Main Stage to Top Of The Park, while not specifically Fourth of July themed, SummerFest is a great thing to check out and The Fourth falls during this year’s celebration. There’s music, comedy and fun every night. Check out the website for more details.
No matter what your plans are for The Fourth, be safe, be happy and enjoy but definitely consider these local events.
