Do you ever play trivial pursuit and find that you did not know as much about Hollywood and the Oscars as you thought you did? For instance, do you know which film director directed the most actors to Oscar victory? It was a man named William Wyler who had 14 wins with actors and currently still holds the record.
I had no idea who William Wyler was; I thought the answer would have been Steven Spielberg. Well, as it turns out, Mr. Wyler directed many well-known films such as “Ben-Hur” that not only received 11 Academy Awards but also won for best picture. I stand corrected.
It is amazing the things you can learn by hunting the web. For instance, the funniest Oscar trivia I found was that John Lasseter, who started his career with Walt Disney Animation Studios and is now the Executive Director at Pixar, dresses his Oscars in the haute couturiers of the ever-popular cultural icon Barbie.
I do not know how true this is but I am sure he uses the outfits chosen to be worn by Barbie in the wonderful animated film series he directed “Toy Story” for which he won an Oscar for the Special Achievement Award category.
There is one sad fact I found during my research, do you know no animal has ever won an Oscar? It is true. Mr. Ed, Lassie, Rin-Tin-Tin, Secretariat, and the list goes on, none ever received an Academy Award.
Think of it, what would the movie “Rin-Tin-Tin” be without the dog that played the part of Rin-Tin-Tin? Moreover, what of the “Lassie” movies without…Lassie or, the most well-known movie of all times “The Wizard of OZ” without Toto.
The only explanations I could come up with could be that only humans can be members of the Screen Actors Guild and I believe you have to be a member for nomination for an Oscar or could it be just plain jealousy on the part of their human co-stars since the animals always steal the show.
Till next time my friends…
