Chance of Winning: 3-to-2
What’s going for him: He rates high on the factors important to “Idol” voters. Week after week, he’s been consistently good. In addition, he’s improved over the season, taking the judges’ suggestions. What he lacks in stagecraft, he makes up for with sheer musical talent.
What could go wrong: Last season, “Idol” crowned a female winner, and viewers celebrated. Why? Because previously, there’d been a long run of winners fitting into the “white guy with a guitar” category. Alex could still face backlash from those rooting against another “WGWG” win.
What’s going for her: A big-voiced singer with edge, she’s just as comfortable tickling the ivories on a delicate ballad. In recent weeks, her confidence has built, and it shows. As the show’s instant polls demonstrate, she does well in the youth demographic, traditionally key for making the finals.
What’s going against her: Being female hasn’t recently been a recipe for success.
What’s going for him: This season’s rocker delivers powerful performances weekly. As an added bonus, he’s funny and gracious, seeming to care about his fellow competitors.
What’s going against him: The last rocker to win was David Cook in Season 7!
What’s going for her: With vocals like a modern Stevie Nicks, this experienced musician seems a lock to make the Top 5.
What’s going against her: Every season, “Idol” features a girl with dyed-red hair and a big personality. None have won. Additionally, she’s stiff onstage and looks annoyed while listening to critiques.
What’s going for him: On paper, he’s a potential phenomenon. Cute, with a beautiful voice, he elicits screams from the audience.
What’s going against him: Ironically, Sam fails to connect with the audience while singing. If he’d just look up once in a while, he’d increase his chances. However, as the recipient of the save, his days are likely numbered.
What’s going for him: Hands down, the nicest guy of Season 13, he’s a funny, humble family man.
What’s going against him: His performances have been wildly uneven, with notable pitch problems. Nice as he is, he won’t be around much longer.
