Deciding to take your first cruse can be an exciting time, so much to think about, so much to look forward to, but exactly what will that be? Here are some things that you can expect when taking your first cruise.
The Greeting – Once you arrive at the harbor and the excitement fills the air, you will hurriedly make your way to the entrance to the cruise ship where you will be greeted and have you picture taken, you will be offered these later on during the cruise. You don’t have to be well dressed for this, wearing comfortable shorts and sandals are perfect attire to begin the adventure. There will be another opportunity later for a more formal picture when you dress for dinner, an event where you are encourage to dress up in your Sunday best.
Your Baggage – This will be taken from you, marked and will be waiting for you when you arrive in you room. Keep anything you really need with you such as your purse or a camera.
Finding you room – I found this to be confusing yet exciting. The hallways were very close and there were twist and turns everywhere. Make sure to ask for help to find your room if you find it difficult. Once you locate it and you open the door I found my excitement grew all the more.
Exploring the ship – Once you’re settled you have nothing but time to run about the ship, talk to others and find out what is offered for fun. At first there were drinks drinks offered at every turn, very festive drinks with umbrella’s and filled with fruit as well as other choices, let the fun begin.
Entertainment – On my cruise, we attended comedy shows, walked through casinos, went dancing, walked about the deck where others were playing ping pong and shuffleboard. Some of my friends participated in karaoke while others chose to visit the many food displays, gather up the delicious offerings and sit table side and watch the various passengers as they mingle and express their excitement as the ships sails away.
Eating, drinking and sleeping – There are those who will run a muck taking in all the ship offers, indulging, over indulging throwing all reservations to the wind but be warned. If you are taking a short cruise as we did for three days, you can wear yourself out very easily, take your time, get your rest and pace yourself.
Going ashore – Depending on your cruise there will be a point where you are offered to go ashore and explore your surroundings. Our stop was in Mexico where there was of course shopping and more drinking for those who choose to indulge. It can be a fun time or you can choose to stay aboard as we did, sit poolside playing cards and giving ourselves time to relax. Even poolside there is so much going on with games, singing and other fun in the sun.
The fun will soon be over, time for the ship to dock where you will be united with your belongings and with your sea legs find your transportation home where I am most certain you will require some time to lay back and relax from all the excitement.
