Located in the heart of New York City, Tempt truly brings a classic rock sound to an entirely different generation. With Zach Allen on vocals, Harrison Marcello on guitar, keyboard, and vocals, Zak Gross on both the bass and vocals, and Jimmi Kane on the drums; this modern melodic rock act is all about big hooks and even bigger riffs. Recently, I had the opportunity to listen to their newest album Under My Skin. What did I think?
Under My Skin is a modern rock uptempo number that reminds me of the classic rock era mixed with an early 90s redux. If you could imagine a more modern Ratt, then you can imagine this tune. I am loving the instrumental arrangement and how it goes great with Allen’s phrasing in the tune. The chorus is quite catchy, making this quite avant-garde.
Some of the greatest music I have ever heard is influenced by hard rock of the 80s and 90s persuasion. When I hear Use It Or Lose It, I am reminded of this era. This uptempo truly delivers not only great beats, but vocals. I absolutely love the guitar solo in this tune, even though it was relatively short. The storyline is practical and is delivered amazingly. Again, the chorus line is catchy.
As I continue listening to Under My Skin, I am introduced to The Fight. It is very Europe meets Reo Speedwagon meets Queen meets Ratt. I really love it because I can hear this song being played in an action movie in the 80s. The guitar riffs are excellent in this song. Like the first tunes prior, this is an uptempo tune.
Time Won’t Heal is an amazing ballad that really brings something special to the album. It is very Skid Row meets Damn Yankees meets Ratt. I actually find myself singing it after the song is over. The epic storyline is one thing, however; chorus line is very catchy. It is quite avant-garde yet melodic in a classic and modern sense. I love the vocals in this song, as well. The guitar part goes excellent with the melody. This is, without a doubt, my favorite song I have heard so far.
Would I purchase this album? Yes. Would I recommend this album to a friend? Yes. Especially if you love Ratt, Metallica, Van Halen, Megadeth, Europe, Mr. Big, Skid Row, and Buckcherry. Don’t miss Tempt’s performance at the Kitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 8 PM. For more information about Tempt and Under My Skin, please visit www.temptband.com today.
