I have enjoyed Marvel’s ‘Agents of Shield’ from the beginning. I will admit though the second half has been much better than the first. Gone are the one and done episodes of putting to rest some alien technology left over from an Avengers movie or battling the random bad guy. The second half of the season is tying things together nicely, adding twist, and is a cohesive continuation from week to week. I love Colston. His reaction to finding out that he was the one behind Project Tahiti was fantastic. I despise agent Ward. We now have a true bad guy to dislike. Sure there have been villains, but Ward was there from the beginning with his smug attitude and toughness. He was part of the team, we got to know him, or so we thought, and he was their friend. We now have true good guys versus the bad guys like we would expect in a Marvel issue be it a comic, movie or television show.
However, and here it comes, I have one problem. Why can’t SHIELD bring in a true super hero to simply squash Garrett, Ward, and any other potential Hydra threats? I understand the financial reasons. Marvel simply won’t (not can’t because they have plenty) shell out the money to bring in a true film star. But in super hero television reality why wouldn’t SHIELD just call in Tony Stark, Captain America, Hawkeye or even the Black Widow. All of these are members of the Avengers and SHIELD and unlike Thor live right here with the rest of the common folk. Could you imagine the Hulk dropping in and the budget they would need for that episode? So forget it, they are too expensive and I’m sure busy fighting some other threat. But what about giving us a new Marvel hero besides one of the big box office draws? Hydra has Deathlok, a Marvel character introduced through television not through the big screen. Why don’t the creators give us a new good guy perhaps introducing us to possibly a future film star? Why not give us Quake, Havok, Luke Cage or get really crazy and have someone like Venom show up and then somehow do a crossover with Spiderman and open up all sorts of new possibilities?
But what do I know? The Marvel Universe is just so big that there are so many possibilities. I guess if I was a SHIELD member though I would just be trying to get a little help to deal with Hydra from someone who could go one on one with Deathlok or deal with all the crazy “toys” that were stolen from the freezer. I am sure the writers and creators have some big plans as they have so much at their disposal. I’m just a Marvel fan who hates to wait and who doesn’t have issues like budgeting to worry about. So I will keep watching, and hoping, and watching.
