One of the biggest surprises I encountered when I became a mom was how insanely expensive children’s clothing can be. How is it justified that so little material can cost so much money? And at the rate children grow out of their clothes, you’re likely to break the bank trying to keep up. But after doing a little searching, I found some excellent children’s clothing stores on Long Island that offer fashion-forward clothing at discount prices. These are a few of the most affordable local stores in Suffolk County.
115 Mark Tree Road, Centereach
Don’t let the little storefront fool you. I stopped in to check out this store’s selection and prices and was not disappointed. The shop may be small but it’s jam-packed with stylish clothing in sizes newborn to 14. To make my spontaneous shopping venture worth my time, I was able to make a completely guilt-free impulse purchase – something I rarely do. A stylish, never-worn top and pants set for my four-month-old was priced at under $10 and the friendly owner took off an additional 15%, saying she runs sales like this frequently. They even had a few beautiful Christening gowns in stock so I’ll definitely be returning soon.

If you’re looking for high quality clothing at discount prices, Gigi’s Kids is where you want to go. Aside from clothing in sizes infant to 14, they sell shoes, dancewear, brand new toys, and other miscellaneous items as well. Gigi’s also promises that none of the items they buy or sell have been recalled. Perhaps the best part about this little treasure in the Hamptons is that while you browse, your kids can play.

A large discount department store for babies, toddlers, and children, Kid City is a one-stop shop for all your kids’ clothing needs. Aside from cute and fashionable attire and accessories, they also carry school uniforms, baby furniture, and more. You can also join Kid City’s discount club on the store’s website and print out coupons to save even more money.
Once Upon a Child
5640 Sunrise Highway, Sayville
In my opinion, this consignment store chain is hit or miss. But when you hit, you hit big. I like to stop in frequently since the store gets in new stock often. It appears they have high standards for what they choose to buy and sell as most items appear either brand new or gently used. Their selection of clothing is rather large and neatly organized and they also carry strollers, bouncers, high chairs, and other baby items, all at discounted prices and in great shape. As if you weren’t already saving a lot of cash shopping here, OUAC offers customers an appreciation card as well. You get a stamp on your card for every $10 you spend or sell and, once you get 20 stamps, they take 20% off your next purchase.
