To get to Maine you can take I-95; however, I recommend taking US 1. It runs along I-95 but takes in more of the coast line. You will see some of the most beautiful shore line in the country in Maine. It is so, uncommonly beautiful. Maine is the place to go if you are looking for a nice quiet get-a-way.
Mount Desert Island: https://www.visitmaine.com
If you are looking for; fishing, biking, hiking, or swimming this is the idea place to go. It is where Acadia National Park is. With the quiet beaches and contrasting steep cliffs it gives a wide range of things to do. Oh, did I mention sailing and kayaking?
You have never been mountain climbing? Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School has the most sought after leaders in climbing instructions in the United States. It will be one of the many high lights of your trip. All of their instructors are 100 percent certified and medically trained.
Abbe Museum: https://www.maine.gov
Abbe Museum has two locations in Bar Harbor, Maine. The museum is open the year round. It focuses on the history of Maine and the native people known as the Wabanaki people. At the Abbe’s trailside museum you discover the early 20th century archaeological discoveries. It was Doctor Abbe who assembled a collection of Native American artifacts that were found in Frenchman Bay. Abbe Museum has programs that will interest all ages. Abbe Museum also has a wonderful gift shop with great gifts and art.
Only touched on a few places of interest:
There are over 20 places of interest in and around Bar Harbor itself. If you love lobster like I do; you will love Bar Harbor. There are lobster pots all over with fresh caught lobsters. If you would like you can even pick out the lobster of your choice and they will cook it for you.
There is Bar Island Trails for hiking. To get to Bar Island you walk across a land bridge from the main land to the island. If you are into lighthouses there is Egg Rock Light- house. I have only touched on a few of Maine’s high points of interests. There is so much more all up and down the coast of Maine.
