With the SNL finale, seeing many old cast members gets you wondering, what happens to them after they leave the show? Do they go to more improve? Does there time doing sketch amount to anything professional? For some, they continue their line of work in comedy and a few branch out. Here’s a look at the more recent SNL alums.
Samberg won two golden globes this year for his Fox TV show “Brooklyn Nine-Nine that wrapped up Season 1 this year. No one believed that Samberg’s show “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” would ever become something, as it was the butt of jokes aimed to Samberg during the “James Franco Roast” on Comedy Central. One jab came from fellow SNL alum Bill Hader:
“Andy Samberg, looking forward to your new show Brooklyn 99 . Funny cops. You’re always pushing the envelope Andy. What’s going to happen when you run out of funny crimes like graffiti and pickpockets? Can’t wait to see episode 10 when Brooklyn 99 has to deal with a rape. ‘Oh I dropped the rape kit. Sporgie Dorg!'”
Samberg has also leant a hand to Maya Rudolf’s variety show that aired on NBC. He continues to be a part of his group “The Lonely Island.”
If Wiig’s Golden Globe Award nomination for Bridesmaids in 2012 was any indication of her acting (and writing) chops, I don’t know what is. After SNL, she continued to lend her voice to the Despicable Me and How to Train Your Dragon movies and the movie Her. She had parts in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Anchorman 2 and played a big role in the TV Mini-Series “The Spoils of Babylon.” With all her acting, she still finds time to do improve and impressions through late night interviews like Fallon as Harry Styles.
His band, named 8G Band, is Seth Meyer’s in house music band for his show “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” Armisen also performs on the series Portlandia, of which he is a co-star and co-creator. The show is similar to the SNL format in that it is a sketch comedy series but topics and backgrounds center around Portland, Oregon as the name suggests.
Seth Meyers left the show to host his own late night show on NBC. While he is still close in proximity to SNL, he had to leave his spot at the Weekend Update desk midway through the season to take on full responsibility of his show “Late Night with Seth Meyers” that runs Monday-Friday on NBC.
Sudeikis took big steps forward with his personal life after SNL, getting engaged to actress Olivia Wilde and together having a son Otis, born April 20, 2014. He has had a leading movie role in We’re the Millers opposite of Jennifer Anniston and has roles in many other movies set to release in the near future.
Known for his T-Mobile commercials. Bill Hader has not been doing much since he left. His Stefon impression still lives with us to this day and his many impressions were key to the show during its time, however, he hasn’t had as much screen time as his other alums. Recently, he did sign a development deal with HBO to write and star in a comedy series.
