My home needed painting, so I figured I would do it myself. After all, I thought, how hard could it be. Painting is nothing more than rolling paint on the exterior walls of the home. I felt anybody could do it. I had also decided that I would paint my flat tile roof at the same time. I figured it should take no more than a couple of days and I would be back to work. Oh, but how wrong I was!
Please keep in mind, I had no previous experience in painting a building. I decided I would go online and do a little bit of research about painting a home. The online research that I gathered was the only knowledge I had about the whole entire process. I then went to my local home improvement store and purchased some paint, gloves, primer, brushes and trays. I borrowed a family member’s ladder, and I thought I was ready to go.
The next thing I did was rent a pressure cleaner from my local home improvement store. It took me a while to figure out how to operate it. It was relatively easy pressure cleaning the sides of the home, but I had a really difficult time pressure cleaning the roof. At the time, I owned a very large home in Miami that sat on nearly an acre of land with a guesthouse.
After pressure cleaning the home, this project begin to unfold as a home improvement nightmare. There was wood along the side of the home that needed to be replaced. I had trouble removing the wood and each and every moment became physically exhausting. There was also some metal siding that had to be replaced. I then travel back to my local home improvement store to purchase some wood and a table saw in an attempt to cut the wood myself. Nothing I did looked like it was of professional quality.
After about 3 days, I just could not take it anymore and I had to call in a professional. I was roller painting and all of the work was physically tearing me apart. After this home improvement nightmare, I did not have the energy to even lift a paint brush. I had to end up calling out sick for work a couple of days because I was so tired and my body was hurting. If you don’t have any experience in painting a home, I would highly recommend calling in a professional. I ended up spending more money purchasing supplies and equipment that I will never use.
