A true dive watch is defined by international standards as being highly water resistant, being able to withstand salt water, and being able to withstand temperature changes. In the $100 or less category, it is difficult to find manufacturers who have actually submitted their time pieces for such rigorous testing. However, there are plenty of watch makers that provide traditional dive watch functionality and a high degree (100 meters or more) of water resistance in inexpensive watches. Here are five Dive watches that should be able to handle water, snorkeling, and some degree of shallow water scuba diving.
Casio MWR200H. (100 Meter Water Resistant) At less than $20, the Casio MWR200H looks like a professional dive watch. However, the bezel rotates both ways and it has a resin case and bezel. This Casio is not truly for SCUBA diving. However, the Casio MWR200H is water resistant to 100 meters. It won’t have to get left in a shoe at the beach or by the pool.
Casio Dive AMW320R-1EV Marine Ana-Digi Diver (100 Meters Water Resistant) If you want to up your game and bring some stainless steel to the table, Casio offers the AMW320R Marine Ana-Digital Diver. It looks like a dive watch, has decent water resistance, and also has digital watch functionality. For around $50, it is a good deal.
Invicta 9110 Pro Diver (200 Meter Water Resistant). If you are looking at a traditional dive watch with a rotating bezel, you really want a Rolex Submariner. You also might want an automatic movement. You might also want to own three car dealerships, two restaurants, and a hobby shop. But, you don’t. That’s where Invicta comes in. For less than $100, you can get a real dive watch with 200 meters of water resistance, an automatic movement, and Rolex-inspired looks.
Stuhrling Original Aquadiver Regatta Champion Professional Diver (200 Meters Water Resistant) If you prefer a Swiss Quartz movement, the Stuhrling Original Aquadiver collection may be an alternative. The Regatta Champion series of watches has a proprietary Krystema crystal that has better scratch and shatter resistance than competing mineral and sapphire crystals. At $60 or so, the Stuhrling provides a good blend of looks, performance, and price.
Tommy Bahama Relax Diver (100 Meters Water Resistant). If you like variations on the dive watch theme, the Tommy Bahama Relax Diver series offers some very bright alternatives to the traditional diver. The RLX1000 has a bright yellow dial and a black and yellow polyurethane strap. The RLX1001 offers the same design in a brilliant blue. Each has a Swordfish logo on the dial that looks great. Relax diver watches are less than $100 on Amazon.com.
