We must stop depending on the Federal Government to save us from our problems. We have depended on them for decades and because of it our national infrastructure has been shattered. Because of it our national integrity, our passion, our strength, and our patriotism has been crippled. And the more we suffer the more we look to them for help. And the more we allow them to help us the deeper their hands fall into our pockets and the more they take away. And we will say “thank you” as they do it. Through deception and misdirection we have allowed those in power to absorb more powers than they were ever meant to have. We must pull ourselves out of this vicious and suicidal cycle.
It will be a hard journey. It will be an arduous journey. And like any struggle it will get worse before it gets better. But this is the burden of our generation. Every generation has had its burden to bear. The generation of our Founding Fathers bore the burden of claiming this Nation. The generation of our grandfathers bore the burden for preserving freedom in Europe so evil could not spread. The burden of every American soul alive today is deciding if this country will survive long enough to see another generation.
These words are not meant for political gain, they are not designed as a catch phrase, nor are meant to endorse any agenda. This is fact. It is fact that our country is decaying. While our borders remain strong our soul suffocates. And if we choose to remain apathetic then, like Rome so many centuries ago, we will continue to internally divide until the world is finally able to pick us apart. And one day America will be nothing more than a chapter in somebody else’s history book.
It is vital to realize our burden. We must acknowledge our burden and we must then fight it. We must endure it and we must survive it. We must act for the same reason the generations before us acted. The Founding Fathers had the wisdom to realize that they were not only fighting for themselves but for future Americans to come. Our grandfathers, like all war veterans, knew that they were protecting more than just themselves and their families. They were protecting all future families of America. We must realize that our decisions and actions today will be the reality for millions of Americans yet to be born. To ignore this fact is nothing less than treason to this Nation.
We must face truths. The truth now is that our national leaders have failed to do the job that was sworn to them. But more importantly we must face the truth that we have failed ourselves. We have failed this country. We have neglected commitments that have been passed down to us and we have failed in our duties as citizens. Duties. Every American is taught from childhood about unalienable rights, but what we do not acknowledge is that with unalienable rights come unalienable duties. By allowing this country to get to where it is today is a direct reflection on how far we have slipped. That is truth.
We must remember what it means to be a citizen. We must remember what it means to be a Patriot. Patriotism is more than putting out your flag on the Fourth of July. It is more than liking a picture of a soldier on Facebook. It is more than lighting up a grill on Veterans Day. Patriotism is a lifestyle. Patriotism is sacrifice. It is discipline. It is morality and virtue. Patriotism is duty. Duty to remember that the People are what drives a country, not politicians. Duty is choosing honorable persons to lead. Duty is enforcing the Constitution on those in power. Duty is living a personal life of value and honor, dedicated to your beliefs, to your family, to your neighborhood, to your community, and to your country. Patriots are loyal to what is right by Natural Law, not the whims of man. You duty is to live your life as your own leader so that you may be an example for others to follow. So that you may raise future generations that will continue to carry the torch of Liberty that was lit on the battlefields and in the meeting halls of Colonial America.
Today we trick ourselves into thinking that by allowing more power to those who lead that we are logically adapting in ways that our forefathers could not have foreseen. To continue to believe this lie is madness. The framework of our nation was not hastily drafted in a day. It was debated over for decades by dedicated Patriots who were extensively educated in humanity, history, philosophy, justice, political science, law, and most important of all: experience. Through their combined wisdom they were not only able to create a system that worked but were able to foresee the fruits of this system for generations to come. And they were able to foresee the threats that would naturally arise against this system. These threats are coming to light today.
We, The People, have forgotten the dedication that it takes nurture a Nation. Our government slowly assumes more power as they tell us that it is for our own good. Our truest leaders and truest Patriots are ridiculed and chastised while corrupt gold seekers claim rights to power. Society has traded morality and virtue for convenience and laziness. We have given up wisdom for complacency. We have sacrificed duty for self-interest. We have killed the future for what we want today.
The torch of Liberty is slowly dimming in stormy winds. I fear that it will not be long before it is smothered. The task of re-igniting the flame is in our hands. The Republic will thrive or die with all of us; for it is The People who are the heart of these United States. In order to reclaim our strength we must first discover if we still have heart.
