When Apple releases a new iOS for their iPhones, there are often new “tricks” or “shortcuts” to do various tasks within the operating system. I recently discovered a few of these new “tricks,” and honestly they have made my life a lot easier.
Turn of Simple Passcode
Did you know that you can turn off simple passcode? Go under settings, choose passcode and scroll down a little bit and you will see a button for simple passcode. If you want a simple passcode, such as 4 digit number, turn it on. If you do not want a simple passcode, turn it off and a keyboard will pop up allowing you have a written password.
How many times have you sent messages in iMessage and not know what time you sent it? It has happened to me many times. Not all messages we send have a timestamp on them. Luckily I found a “trick” to see your message times. If you swipe you messages to the left it will show what times that you sent your messages.
Undo and Redo
When texting, it is common to make mistakes. If you make a mistake, instead of holding the delete button down, just shake your phone. A box will pop up and it will give you an option to undo the text you just wrote. However, if that was a mistake to delete the text, just shake the phone again and another box will come up. This box however will be a redo box and it will place the text back.
Sometimes when we take pictures, they do not always turn out like we would like them to. Also it is not possible to “stage” all of our pictures. Thankfully there is a burst mode now in the camera! When taking a picture hold the shutter button down on the screen and it will take multiple pictures. This also works when using the volume buttons on the side of the phone.
Different Key Strokes
Did you know that on the keyboard if you hold specific buttons additional options or symbols will pop up? This works great when writing in another language or if you need a symbol that is not easily accessible or not found on the keyboard. The following keys have additional letters and/or symbols: e, y, u, i, o, a, s, l, z, c, n, – (dash), / (slash), $, &, “, . (period), ?, !, and ‘.
If you want your phone to charge faster, swipe up from the home screen and put it on airplane mode. This is a great option when you need to charge your phone and you do not have much time. Also, turn off bluetooth and wifi if you are not using them. These help to drain your battery life. Also close any programs that you are not using.
Compass and Level
I was shocked to see that my phone not only had a compass but also level. Once the compass is calibrated, it works really well, and the level works great. The level works good enough to hang a picture even!
Choosing a Domain
If you are using Safari, and you are typing in a web address, instead of writing it out just hold down the . (period symbol) and various domains will pop up for you to choose. The domains are: .com, .net, .edu, .org, and .us. I use this feature often as it helps to save time.
I hope that you find these little “tricks” and “shortcuts” helpful. They have saved me a lot time which is great when one has a very busy schedule. I cannot wait to see the new tricks and shortcuts in the future.
