Did you know that you more than likely have a powerful, multipurpose cleaner in your home right now? Did you also know that this particular cleaner is cheap as compared to “brand name” products? White vinegar is an amazing cleaner and disinfectant that will come in handy around the house. I am very thankful that these little tricks have been passed down to me from various family members.
Cleaning the Blinds
The first time I tired this, I was amazed! My blinds looked brand-new once I was done, and it was very easy. Make a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and hot water. Simply take a cloth, I prefer using cloth baby diapers, and slide the cloth along the blinds on both sides and voilà, you will be amazed at how clean your blind are.
Cleaning the dreaded microwave
Cleaning the microwave can be a pain some times. There is dried, crusted food baked on just about every surface. However, cleaning the microwave with vinegar is very simple. In a medium to large microwave safe bowl, place 1-2 cups of water with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vinegar mixed together. I microwave it on high for about 5 minutes, and let the mixture steam up the microwave. Once done, I simply wipe away the residue with a sponge. Your microwave will look like new!
Clean Stainless Steel
I simply spritz the stainless with undiluted white vinegar. I use an old washed out spray bottle with vinegar in it. Once sprayed, I used a clean cloth diaper and buff it dry. It leaves the stainless steel with a great shine!
I use vinegar around my house often, to help keep the grout in the nice and white. I simply place undiluted vinegar in a bowl, and use an old toothbrush and scrub the grout lines. This is a little time consuming, but the results are worth it. This whites them, and it is much cheaper than buying a grout bleaching kits.
Shine Shower Doors
My grandmother shared this little “secret” with me, and I am glad that she did. To remove water spots from my shower doors, I use a cloth baby diaper, (these really work well with cleaning), and wash with a mixture of 1 gallon of water, 1/2 cup of vinegar, and 1/4 cup of baking soda. This also works well on the shower tracks, as well as, the nozzles and faucets.
Clean the Washing Machine
Have you ever had that musty smell in your washing machine? Simply run an empty cycle with 1-2 gallons of vinegar depending on the size of your machine. After the cycle is complete, I run an empty cycle with just water and the smell is gone! Works great!
Vinegar is a great household item to clean clothes. It can remove sweat stains, ink stains, and blood stains! It can also be used to brighten up clothes.
- Sweat stains
Sweat stains on the underarm arm area of t-shirts is unsightly. Simply pour a little bit of vinegar onto the stain and gently rub it in. Once it is rubbed in thoroughly, simply place the shirt into the wash. This works great for ones husbands undershirts!
- Ink Stains
Do you see ink on your favorite shirt, or on one of your children’s shirts? Simply wet the area with vinegar then rub the area with a paste made of vinegar and cornstarch. Let the paste sit and dry on the affected and then wash. That’s it!
To remove blood stains from clothing, simply pour vinegar on the stain, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Blot the spot with a dry towel and repeat again if needed. Wash immediately once bloodstain is removed.
There are endless opportunities to clean various substances and around ones home with white vinegar. Give it a try this year when you are doing your Spring Cleaning! You won’t be disappointed, as vinegar also helps to removed various odors. Good luck, and happy cleaning!
