It’s your daughter’s birthday and you just realized that the budget you have may not be enough to throw her the party of her dreams? Don’t sweat over it. Below, I will share with you seven (7) of the most important steps you need to take to be able to prepare the best birthday party ever without having to spend a lot of money during the process.
Step # 1: Come up with the theme for the party. This is the most important part of the process. Why? Because everything else that you need to do depends of the type of party you want to do. It’s very important that you involve your daughter in the theme selection process, but making sure she understands the importance of staying within your selected budget. This not only will help her to have an active role during the party preparation, but also will teach her the importance of planning an event based on the resources you have available and not just based on the amount of money you have for it.
Step # 2: Decide where the party will take place. During this part of the planning, you should see what options you have available that will not require you to spend a lot of money. The best options would be to do the party in your own house or ask a friend to see if you could have the event in her/his house. If these options are not possible, you could also try having the party at a local community park. The idea is to find a place that is safe, closed to the area, and of course, free of charge. If none of this is possible, then you may have to do a little research about other available locations and select the one that best fits your budget.
Step # 3: Create you invitee’s list. When creating the invitee’s list, you have to take in consideration that the more people you invite, the more money you will have to spend in food, drinks, gift bags, etc. That being said; be very particular with the people you are going to invite. Again, involve your daughter in the process and come up with a reasonable list based on the budget you have. Basically, what I am trying to say is that the smaller the group, the better for your pocket.
Step # 4: Plan the menu. For this part of the planning, I’ll suggest you to decide in advance what is that you will be serving your guests and see if you can either prepare the food yourself or ask those friends who like to cook to give you a hand. Don’t go overboard with fancy stuff. The best part about children’s birthday parties is that couple of delicious snacks and refreshing drinks will do it for them. So; get that recipe book out, select couple of simple but appetizing things for your menu, and get to work. Doing things this way will be cheaper than actually hiring someone to do it for you. Again, stay simple and you will be fine.
Step # 5: Choose the entertainment. This is basically the fun part of the entire event planning process. In this step, you get to plan the way you want the guests to entertain themselves during the party. Again, involve your little one in the process and research ways to have fun and entertaining activities for each age groups. The activities could go from arts and crafts, to active sports event, to interesting games. The point here is to select things to do that don’t require you to buy or rent anything. Use your imagination when selecting the activities, but have in considerations the things that your daughter likes to do. Remember; your daughter is the most important guest in your party and if she is having fun, everyone else will do too.
Step # 6: Recruit people to help you before, during, and after the party. Another inexpensive way of making a party a total success without having to spend a lot of money is by asking your friends for help. It could be helping you decorate, taking photos, arranging the cake table, etc. All these little tasks can easily be accomplished by having your friends come over and give you a helping hand. Again, don’t overstress by this, or feel like you need to hire a professional event coordinator. Gather some people and have fun doing it yourselves. Believe me; you will be surprised by all the things you can get done by having some friends over. And, the good part is that it will be free of charge, unless you feel like buying a pizza as a payment.
Step # 7: Have fun. Yes, my friends; at this point, everything should have been taken care of. Now, it’s time for you to relax and start having fun. Remember; this is your daughter’s special day. Don’t allow anything to ruin the fun for her nor for you, and a tight budget should be the least of your worries at this moment.
As you can see, throwing a nice birthday party, especially on a tight, budget doesn’t have to be an unpleasant task. It just requires the desire to do it, a little creativity, and of course the help of some friends. Yes, you may also need some cash, but if you use your imagination and do your best to use the resources you have versus buying everything new, your chances of having a great birthday party for your daughter will be better than stressing out over having a tight budget. The truth is that, at the end of the day, if you plan it right, your daughter will still have fun and will never realize that everything was done on a tight budget.
