Taiwan has a fascinating and intricate culture. Much of their daily life an be seen as a bit weird or bizarre for foreigner’s standards. These are just five of possibly millions of things that I find bizarre about Taiwan.
1. Garbage trucks have music- Most foreigners get extremely confused the first time they see or hear the garbage man in Taiwan. The garbage trucks actually play music. The sound is very similar to the ice crea m truck in America.
2. Modern Toilet Restaurant- This restaurant is one of Taiwan’s most famous tourist attractions. The concept is that all of the dishes are served with plates and bowls in the shape of a toilet. Food comes from many different countries in this establishment. I wonder if they are inferring Taiwanese food is so much better.
3.Twenty Four Hour Eye Glass Stores- This is one of the strangest things I have ever seen in my life. Taiwan has a chain of stores where you can buy glasses at any time of the day. The stores normally have blaring music, and a giant statue of a pair of eye glasses in the front.
4. Eight year old kids make great translators- I got lost walking back to my apartment when I first arrived to Taiwan. I was advised before I left that asking a younger child is the best thing to do in that case. Sure enough, I was saved in finding a way back to my house by an eight year old kid. His mom actually offered me a job with her school also.
5. Living next to a school is terrible!- The school bell starts ringing at seven o’clock in the morning. It goes off ever fifty minutes well past nine o’clock at night. Saturday mornings normally feature and outdoor event. The students work non-stop. Living close means you get to hear every bit of it. It is quite the opposite of USA. This location would normally drive the price of property up, and not down
What is the weirdest thing you have ever seen in a foreign country?
