Delaware is a small state with a hometown feel. It is filled with lots of corn fields, new developments, and lots of standing waters. Some people may assume that there isn’t much to do, but there is plenty to do here. There are many things to do in Delaware.
Hagley Museum and Library
The Hagley Museum is located in Wilmington. The hours of operation are between 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Hagley Museum gives tours daily. This is the original site of DuPont Mills and it was founded in 1802. A tour guide takes visitors on a three level exhibit tour. These exhibits tell about the history of the mills and the DuPont Company. One can go outside a take a tour of the outdoor mills and village exhibits as well. One can eat lunch inside the café or simply eat lunch outdoors at the picnic tables. It costs $14 per person to visit the Hagley Museum.
Going to the Brandywine Zoo is one of many things to do in Delaware. This zoo is home to some off the most exotic animals in the world. There are about one hundred and fifty animals that live at this zoo. Children can see the Amur Tiger, Honduran Milk Snake, Andean Condor, Pygmy Goat, and the Swift fox, to name a few. Zoo hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are open 7 days per week. The Brandywine Zoo is located in Wilmington Delaware. Children under three get in free. Ages three to seventeen years old pay $5, adults pay $7, and seniors pay $5.
Nassau Valley Vineyards
Nassau Valley Vineyards is the only vineyard in the State of Delaware. Due to legislation that was passed in 1991, the Raley’s opened its doors in 1993. Nassau Valley Vineyards is located in Lewes Delaware. Their vineyards include Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Cabernet, and a few other types of wine. There are tours and wine tastings daily. Space rental is available for weddings.
Wilmington and Western Railroad
The Wilmington and Western Railroad is an old train from the 1867 era. It moved goods along the Red Clay River and the port of Wilmington. It is now used as a tourist attraction. One can throw their child’s next birthday party here. Caboose rental pricing starts at $250. Regular ticket prices for adults are $18. Children’s tickets for two to twelve years old cost $16. Children under the age of two ride for free. And seniors pay $17. All rides are at least two hours long on the Wilmington and Western Railroad.
World Café Live at The Queen
The World Café at the Queen is where musicians from all over the globe come to perform. The World Café is located in Wilmington. All you have to do is check the local schedule to see who is performing. One can find a free show from time to time. Most ticket prices start at $8. There is a restaurant on the upper level. Restaurant hours are Wednesday through Friday and doors open at 11:30 a.m. Saturdays they open at 5 p.m. And Sunday through Tuesday, the restaurant is closed. Meals start at $8.
Even though Delaware is a small state, there are plenty of things to do in Delaware.
