The legalization of marijuana and regulation, in much the same way as alcohol or tobacco, has many merits. With several states allowing the legal recreational use of marijuana more and more lax attitudes are abundant in our society and culture. Many of us know family, friend, or acquaintance who regularly partakes of the herb. Many just smoke on the weekends or once in a blue moon and this isn’t in regard to them. So without further delay here are the top 5 annoyances we have with regular daily marijuana users.
1. They smoke everyday
Regular marijuana users smoke one hits all day it seems…. at lunch, at school, after work, on the weekends and even in the morning. A lot of people have an alcoholic drink on the weekends or after the work day which is totally different than drinking while at work. Most places would fire you if you were drinking on the job. Vodka is legal but most people don’t slam a bottle in the morning to start their day. Toking up at work, school, or first thing every day is annoying.
2. They get lazy on the weekends and become party poopers.
Ever have that friend of yours that’s high all the time? They hardly ever want to go out and do anything, they’d rather sit at home and chill. It’s fine to hang out at home every now and then but almost every night, come on! It’s fun to go out and experience the night life in town, not sitting on the couch every single Friday and Saturday night. Are you really tired or did you get blown…again?
3. They are juvenile and even immature.
Depending on the poll or study you rely on up to half the population over age 12 has smoked pot at one point. Many associate pot use as something they did as a dumb teenage kid. In our culture there is almost a sort of graduation from marijuana use to alcohol use. When you become 21 you are now able to have social engagements where alcohol is a center piece. In the eyes of society marijuana becomes something only teenagers and college students use. Many jobs require drug testing and as an individual gets into their twenties career priority becomes more important than marijuana use. For most of society who smoked pot as a teenager and then grew up, got a job and quit it’s easy for them to view those who still use as juvenile.
4. They ignore or deny health risk.
I know we have all been bombarded with the over exaggeration of dangers of marijuana, think the movie Refer Madness. After hearing one after the other you start to lack any trust for the supposed “risk” associated with marijuana. Unfortunately the risk are also over exaggerated in efforts to argue against legalization. In having said that there are still risk associated with marijuana use that are very real and similar to tobacco use long term effects when used daily. What I find ironic is many daily pot smokers think cigarettes are horrible but deny any negative health risk of the pot.
5. They appear dumb, cloudy minded, and stupid at times.
Remember Cheech and Chong or Half Baked. The humor in these movies is how dumb the characters are. A long term study in New Zealand showed lower IQ associated with marijuana use in teenagers. It doesn’t take a movie or a study to tell anybody that knows a daily marijuana user. We can all look in their red glazed over eyes and see they are dumb and slow minded compared to their intellectual capacity when sober.
