Get creative this summer to make your own DIY fashion. You can put a personal twist on your stuff to get a unique look, and you won’t have to go broke while doing it.
Summer is a time to show a little skin and wear clothes that are a little bit briefer. This makes the season perfect for DIY fashion . So get out the scissors, and get to creating some brave new summer looks.
Sunglasses upgrade: You don’t need designer shades to look chic. Get a small piece of wallpaper or sticky paper; even a sample size might do it. Cover the outside of each arm to give your sunglasses a fresh, unique new look.
Flip flops upgrade: Get a pair of inexpensive flip flops to make DIY summer sandals . Cut out the plastic thong. Instead, insert braided ribbon into the holes to make pretty sandals. To put the design over the top, add a ribbon bow or flower to the strap.
Cutoff shorts: Lengthen cutoff shorts by giving them a decorative lace edge. Add the lace to the underside so the frayed edge still shows.
Shirt conversion: Turn a long-sleeved, V-neck shirt into a skirt. Step into the collar of the shirt, instead of putting it on overhead, and pull it up to your waist. Tie the sleeves into a bow at the front and you’ve got a cute summer look.
Bow top: Create a stylish summer top by starting with a colored bra and fabric of your choice. You’ll need a thick trip of fabric, about 6 inches wide and up to 24 inches long. Tie it into a big bow. Match it against the bra to make sure it will cover the cups completely, with a little extra overhang on either side. Sew the edges of the bow to the bra. Use scraps to cover to the band of the bra in the back, or use a piece of ribbon. Sew it into place, and your bow top is ready to wear.
Use your DIY skills to upgrade, revamp and change your clothes for summer wear. Scissors and stitches are much cheaper than going on a summer shopping spree.
