If your tresses are looking a little lifeless lately, freshen up your locks with a few simple changes to your haircare routine. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars at the salon or buy expensive products to have gorgeous hair, but you do need to take steps to condition and strengthen your hair by eating a healthy diet and protecting your hair from the heat.
Here are five easy ways to revive your hair just in time for summer:
#1: Deep condition hair at least once a week. I’m a big fan of deep-conditioning hair masks but if you don’t want to buy more product, treat your hair to a hot oil treatment at home using coconut oil. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer for the hair and will help to keep your hair soft and silky this season.
#2: Skip the shampoo. Shampooing your hair every day can strip your scalp of natural oils you need for healthy and shiny hair. Wash your hair every other day or every few days, and use a dry shampoo between washes if needed.
#3: Protect your scalp. Few people realize that UV rays can not only damage the skin but can also weaken the protein in your hair. Wear a UV hat if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors and consider using sunscreen-infused hairspray to protect those tresses from sun damage.
#4: Eat more eggs. Whole eggs are a good source of biotin and also contain other nutrients that are essential for healthy hair, skin, and nails. As long as you don’t have high cholesterol, start incorporating more whole eggs into your diet.
#5: Use a heat protectant serum. Anti-frizz serums, dry oil, and thermal serums need to be part of your arsenal of products this season. Use these products before drying your hair and when using a flat iron. You can also use a very small amount of these products to freshen up your locks and smooth out flyways in the middle of the day.
