As a golfer, I am always looking for opportunities to get on the course or the driving range. When I travel, I like to be aware of good courses or other golf-related information about the destinations I visit. A key to keeping your game in good form is frequent trips to the range. Many golf ranges are open late but here are five across the U.S. that are always open, they’re hosting golfers 24 hours a day.
Haggins Oaks – Sacramento, California This golf complex has a full driving range open 24 hours a day during May, June, July, August and September. A large, 150-ball basket is $14 and discount and bulk plans are offered. First opened in 1932, Haggins Oaks also features two full classically-designed courses. Loaner clubs are available.
Mad Golfer Golf Club – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania This range in suburban Southampton, PA is all about driving golf balls and offers many plans for regulars. The Mad Golfer Golf Club lighted range has 50 stalls (25 are heated) and 10 natural grass tees. In addition to the range, there’s a practice bunker and greens, which are available to range users at no additional charge. Loaner clubs are always free to range users.
Hidden Hills Golf Club – Columbus, Ohio This 300-yard range is open all day and all night from March through September. A bucket of balls is $5 and the facility also has a nine-hole course. Hidden Holes Golf Club is in Fredericktown, Ohio, between Columbus and Cleveland. Rental clubs are available and this facility also has lessons and a restaurant, with one of longest ranges in the area.
Chena Bend Golf Course – Fairbanks, Alaska On Fort Wainwright, Chena Bend Golf Course features an automated, 24-hour, 275-yard driving range and the public can apply for a gate pass in advance for access to the base. Due to the constant summer sunlight in Alaska, many golf courses in the area are open virtually all night, as long as there is sun. The par-72 course here is considered one of the best in the state. The course has a clubhouse, pro shop and offers lessons and golf leagues and tournaments.
Bay Palms – Tampa, Florida The last 24 hour driving range is only open to active and retired military as it’s on MacDill Air Force Base, in Tampa. Bay Palms is a full golf club with two, 18-hole championship courses along with practice greens and sand traps. The lighted range is open 24 hours a day. Club membership is available and rates depend on your military rank.
