Many women use a flat iron to straighten their hair. Some use it regularly, while others use it occasionally. It may seem pretty easy and simple to use. However, you could be damaging your hair. Here are 4 things you shouldn’t be doing:
Mistake #1 – Not Using A Heat-Protectant Spray
A heat-protectant spray provides moisture and keeps the hair from burning. It also acts as a shield from heat damage. You will notice that your hair is shinier and smoother. Always spray on a heat protectant when your hair is clean and damp.
Mistake #2 – Pulling The Hair Straight Down
You should always flat iron the hair, close to your roots. Then, flat iron each section of the hair. Be sure to pull the hair up, as you flat iron each section. You will have volume at the crown. Your hair will be straight, with plenty of body.
Mistake #3 -Not Keeping Flat Iron Clean
Styling products can easily build up on your flat iron. This is why you should clean it regularly. This will prevent the products from snagging your hair. Use a paper towel to clean the handles, screens, and buttons. Be sure to also clean the outside part of the plates.
Mistake #4 – Not Setting Heat At Proper Temperature
Never turn the heat all the way up. Always set it on 350 degrees, to prevent your hair from burning. This is gentler on your hair strands. It also helps it style quicker and prevent hair damage.
