There is no reason that you should suffer with allergies, when there may be alternatives that will work for you. A few of them are listed below:
1. Allergy Forecast
Sometimes just knowing how much pollen that is in the air will help you manage those seasonal allergies. When you know that there is pollen increase, you may want to limit your outside activities. You may want to get those needed things that need to be done on the inside of your house. Unfortunately, in Michigan the pollen count seemingly has been on the high side. According to Pollen.com there is still no cure for allergies, but there are ways to lessen the allergy symptoms. They suggest Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots). The purpose is to build up your antibodies, which will allow your body to not overreact when exposed to allergens. Although, I have never had the shots, I do know of a friend that took the shots and they seemingly helped him tremendously.
2. Allergy Statistics
Did you know that 55% of the United States population tests positive to one or more allergens? In addition according to Webmd.com the number of workdays lost each year was 4 million as a result of hay fever. Were you in any of these numbers? No one wants to be plagued with suffering from allergies.
3. Proactive with Allergies
According to Mayoclinc.com there are a few things that you can do to reduce allergen triggers such as knowing that the best time to go outside is after a good rain because it helps clear pollen from the air.
In addition, they suggest not hanging laundry outside because pollen can stick to sheets and towels. Also, wearing a dust mask will help when doing outside chores. I was not aware that a good rain helps to clean pollen form the air, however, I am aware of how clean the air smells after a good rain. I often see people mowing their lawns with mask, and that is a good idea.
4. Peppermint Tea
Did you know that drinking peppermint tea can relieve clogged up noses? According to howstuffworks.com the essential oil acts as a decongestant and they further add that there are substances in the tea that contain anti-inflammatory and antibacterial constituents. However, they suggest using caution when giving to children. This should be great for all of you tea lovers. Although I love black tea, I will have to try this peppermint tea.
