Cosmos, to some, has been considered controversial. To others, who already accept the facts behind evolution, it might seem like pretty basic science. So why watch?
1. History. Whether or not you think the notion of evolution is fact, there is still history to contend with. Cosmos depicts, with very beautiful animation, lots of key moments in the history of science. It depicts the opposition, brilliance and former world of many important scientists. History is important no matter how you feel about the science, and the history of science is even more so. Just knowing where these discoveries come from is worth it.
2. Passion. It is impossible for Neil Degrasse Tyson to conceal his passion for science and the history of it. If you are interested in people who do what they love, then it is totally worth it to see someone talk excitedly about their life’s work and passion.
3. Socialization. Pretty much everyone I know is watching it. And while I’m not a particularly scientific person, I do find it helpful to keep up with things that people are talking about. Again, you may not agree with everything on the show, but at least you can talk about it with people in an informed manner.
4. Vote. Ever heard the phrase “vote with your money?” If you feel strongly about the subject matter, and you think this show should stay on the air, then maybe you should watch it. Keep the ratings up and let Fox know that this show is valued by the public and that there is room in the common sphere for science.
