It is important that our kids grow up to be caring people. Let’s face it, we all want a child who really, truly cares about others. This is a quality they develop overtime through practicing. If you want your child to be kind and gentle, try the following suggestions:
Demonstrate to your child how to treat others. When they are feeling sad, be warm and caring. For example, tell them, “Mommy is so sorry that you are feeling sad.”
When they share their toys, let them know you are proud of them. You may want to say, “That was very kind of you to share with your friend.” Then add something like, “How do you think it made your friend feel when you shared with her?”
Praise your children for specific accomplishments. Tell them how great they are. Encourage them to keep up the good work. Tell them how proud you are of them for giving it their best.
Expect them to help around the house. Let them help take care of the pets or help do chores. You could let them help make their bed or put their shoes away. This teaches them the importance of helping others.
