When I needed more storage space on my multi-acre property, an advertisement from a giant retailer caught my eye. Descriptive words like “durable steel”, “reinforced roof” and “easy to assemble” enticed me to take a closer look. The price was right, so I rushed out and bought- what I thought- was the answer to my problem. Read this informative article and find out 3 reasons why I’ll never buy another steel storage building kit.
1. Time Consuming to Build
After we laid the concrete floor, the frame went up next, then the roof, and finally the sides. The pieces were easy to identify and the instructions were fairly easy-to-understand, I’ll give the manufacturer that much. It took one person to hold the pieces together while another secured them together with screws and nuts. Using cordless drills saved time. Still, it took several man-hours to completely assemble the steel storage building kit.
2. Then the Rains Came…
Okay, the building is built and ready to use. We deliberately positioned it under several trees to help protect it from the weather. I quickly filled it up with items like power mowers and lawn furniture. Everything fit. I closed the doors. Life was good. I’ll never buy another steel storage building kit because when it rained, the roof leaked, and my stuff got wet. When the weather cleared and the roof dried out, we sealed it. More time, labor and money to resolve this problem.
3. The Last Straw
I’ll skip over other problems I encountered with my steel storage building such as rust and the fact that the sliding doors wouldn’t stay in the track. I was ready to abandon the building and give it to the boys to use as a play shed. But Mother Nature had other plans. One day we had seriously high winds and the building crumpled. We took it apart, loaded the pick-up, and sold it as scrap. And that, my friends, was the end of my steel storage building kit experience.
