Since the beginning of the year, GM has recalled an astounding almost 7 million vehicles, ranging in model years from 2003-2014. This recall will undoubtedly affect all the families driving any of these cars. Here is a summary of the largest recalls by GM so far this year, including which vehicles have been affected.
2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
2005-2010 Pontiac G5
2003-2007 Saturn Ion
2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR
2005/2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada)
2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice
2007-2010 Saturn Sky
This ignition switch recalls effects about 2.6 million vehicles. They are being recalled because of the risk that the switch will move from the “run” position, cutting off some electrical power to the engine and turning it off. Thirteen fatalities have been attributed to this problem. GM is advising all drivers to remove excess weight from their key rings until their vehicles have been repaired. All 2004/2005, some 2006 and all 2008/2009 Chevrolet Malibu
All 2004/2005 and some 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
Some 2009/2010 Chevrolet HHR (non-turbo)
Some 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
Some 2008/2009 Saturn Aura
All 2004-2007 Saturn Ion
All 2005, some 2006/2008/2009 Pontiac G6
Unlike the Ignition Switch Recall, not all of the vehicles in a model year have been recalled, and other vehicles have been given a lifetime power steering warranty (2006-2008 Chevrolet HHR and 2003 Saturn Ions). The Power Steering Recall affects another 1.3 million vehicles. The problem is that the Power Steering can fail, and while the manual steering will still function, it can cause more accidents.
2008-2013 Buick Enclave
2008-2013 GMC Acadia
2009-2013 Chevrolet Traverse
2008-2010 Saturn Outlook
These approximately 1.18 million vehicles are being recalled because of possible non-deployment of airbags if drivers ignore the indicator light on the dashboard.
Transmission Oil Cooling Lines
2014 Chevrolet Silverado
2014 GMC Sierra 1500
2015 Chevrolet Suburban
2015 Chevrolet Tahoe
2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL
A recall was issued to secure transmission oil cooling lines and prevent them from leaking, which may cause fires. GM said that there have been three fires and no injuries that they know of. The recall will affect 490,000 vehicles.
2013/2014 Chevrolet Cruze with turbocharged 1.4 liter engine
172,000 Cruzes are being recalled because one of the axle shafts can fracture and separate, which may cause the car to lose power.
2009-2014 Chevrolet Express
2009-2014 GMC Savannah
This recall was to protect passengers not wearing seat belts, as the previous instrument panel might not have protected them in a crash. This recalls effects around 300,000 Express and Savannah vehicles.
Brake Assembly Plug
2013/2014 Cadillac XTS
63,900 of these sedans are being recalled because of increased risks of fire if the Brake Assembly Plug is dislodged and shorts.
