Turning 20 years old is scary for some, and exciting for some. It’s the age where you can still act a little selfish and immature, but have to be a grown up at the same time. The twenties are all about learning, finding your way, and having fun, and here are some tips to make sure you make the best of this awesome decade.
1. Do Something Dangerous
Dangerous could mean riding all the rides at your favorite amusement park, learning how to hunt, riding motorcycles, skydiving, or anything in between. Do something that gives you an adrenaline rush, and that you can look back on and say “I’m glad I tried that!” There is no regret in having fun, but remember to be as safe as possible!
2. Start Saving Up
Start a savings account if you haven’t already, and commit to putting money in each paycheck. Speak to your boss about setting up your paychecks so that a set amount goes straight in to your savings, so that you don’t have any excuses. Just forget it’s there until the time comes to spend it!
3. Own A Pet
The easiest way to learn responsibly is to learn how to take care of another life. If you remember to feed the cat, other things on your to-do list might be remembered just as easily. Plus, pets are nice for comfort!
4. Learn Something Interesting
Sign up for a class on something that you’ve always wanted to know more about. There is power in knowledge, and not to mention it can be fun to learn things outside out your degree’s plan.
5. Take A Vacation
Whether you take it solo, with family, friends, or a significant other, save up and go some place you love or have never been to. Even a short vacation is something you will always look back on and smile about.
6. Do Your Research Before Buying That Car or House
This one is self-explanatory, but knowing what you’re getting into before you get into it is a good way to show you’re maturing. Research can help you get your money’s worth and even find deals and discounts!
7. Do an Internship
Once you have picked your career, the best way to know what you will be doing in the future is to actually try it out. Ask your adviser for opportunities in your area!
8. Go on a Shopping Spree
When you have the extra money, treat yourself to some new clothes. It’s a great confidence boost! If you can, try selling clothes at second-hand stores or on online stores. It’s an easy way to not spend any of your savings and reduce closet clutter!
9. Get that Tattoo You Want
Make sure it’s done by a professional, and don’t get it dedicated to a fling! The only person who has the right to say if it’s regretted or not is you.
10. Try Out Different Looks
Experiment with new hair colors and styles, makeup, and clothing styles.
11. Decorate Your Space
Your apartment, bedroom, dorm, or house are a blank canvas just waiting for you to put your personal touch in. It’s fun and will help you feel at home!
12. Do A Good Deed
Donating and volunteering are more helpful than you could even imagine. Doing a good deed for someone else is humbling and satisfying.
13. Join A Club
Group activities are a great way to make friends that have similar interests!
14. Get Fit
Hit up the gym or join a dance or yoga class. Getting fit is good for health and confidence!
15. Learn Self-Defense
Self defense classes are so important. Just remember that it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
16. Learn A New Language
Being bilingual always looks good on your resume, and it’s just pretty cool to learn something you are unfamiliar with.
17. Sleep In On Days Off
Do it while you still can. Sleeping-in is good for mental health- it’s like unconscious meditation!
18. Start A Blog, Vlog, Scrapbook, or Journal
Keeping mementos of all of the fun you have during this decade is great, because you will never forget about all the good times. Plus, the internet offers ways to earn extra money with videos and blogs! It is a win-win situation.
19. Start Paying Off Student Loans ASAP
Set up payment plans, and start paying them off as soon as possible. It will suck now, but later in life You will be thanking yourself.
20. Go On A Road Trip
Make a playlist, save up some gas money, and just drive. Just make sure you bring a GPS and cellphone in case you get lost!
