It’s one of the biggest nights of your high school career. Make it special for your date by asking them to go with you in a creative way! Here’s a list of 20 creative ways to ask a date to prom.
1. Fake parking ticket.
Leave a fake “parking ticket” on their car. Write out their name and their “violation” and sign by Officer (your name). The “violation” can just be you asking them to go with you to prom.
2. Pizza delivery.
Most pizza chains allow you to give special instructions. You can order your potential date’s favorite pizza and have “Prom?” written on the inside of the box. Make sure they know who it’s from.
Ask your date to prom on Twitter and have your friends and family retreat it until it starts trending.
4. Singing telegram.
If you are a singer ask your potential date to prom by singing them a creative song about asking someone to prom. If you aren’t much of a singer ask members of the choir or other students who you know that are musically incline.
5. Mob flash.
During lunch break ask your potential date to talk and walk them where most of the students of your school likes to hang out during lunch. Coordinate with as many fellow students as you can to “mob flash” while you are asking the big question. Some great types of mob flashing include dance numbers and sing-alongs.
6. A “special” announcement.
If you can somehow manage to convince school staff to let you use the school’s P.A. system do it! Have the regular announcer say “Students we have a very special announcement please listen” and then ask through the P.A. system right then and there. If that is literally impossible an alternative is setting up a speaker and microphone outside during the lunch break and asking in front of everyone there.
7. Secret admirer.
For a week straight leave letters at your potential date’s locker. If your school doesn’t have lockers have one of their friends deliver the letters. Start out on Monday with the letter talking about how prom is coming up. Tuesday through Thursday build up the letters with talks of how it would be awesome to go together to prom and talk about how much fun you’ll have. In the final letter that is delivered on Friday ask them to prom.
8. Musical serenade.
Have a couple people play instruments while asking your potential date to prom. You can even have a rock/garage band play a song and have the singer sing about prom. Don’t ask them until the song is over.
Fill your potential date’s entire bedroom with balloons. Have a sign on the front of the door that says “Step 1. Pop all of the balloons” and have a needle taped to the sign. Make a poster that says “Step 2: Go to prom with me” and put it on the floor under all of the balloons. They’ll have to pop all of the balloons to get to the poster that asks them to prom which should be very fun and exciting.
10. Decorate a football.
This is great for when girls want to ask a guy out or if you like playing sports with the potential date. Decorate a football with a sharpie that asks them to go to prom with you. Try to blend it in with the football so it’s not noticeable at first. Ask to play catch and see if they notice what’s on the football. If they don’t notice it after a few catches make some reference to the ball so that they look at it more closely.
11. Chalking it up.
In the driveway of their home write in chalk “Will you go to prom with me?”. Make sure you ask their parents if you can do that first but it should be okay since sidewalk chalk easily washes away.
12. YouTube star!
Create a video asking them to prom and upload it to YouTube. You can be as creative as you want with the actual video. You can choose to do a live action video, an animation, or even a slideshow. The more effort you put in the actual video the better.
13. Tealight special.
Set up a bunch of tealights to spell out “Prom?”. If you have permission the gym at school is a great place to set this up.
14. Playing around with video games.
Video games are very popular these days and there are several games out there that can help you ask your potential date to prom. One particular game called Minecraft lets you build practically anything. You could easily build letters spelling out “Will you go to prom with me?” in Minecraft. If your potential date plays video games than this is the way to ask.
15. When a dirty car is a good thing.
If your potential date typically has a dirty car this might work in your favor! Draw with your finger on their windshield “Prom?”. This will definitely get noticed if you make it very big.
16. Post-it notes attack!
Cover their car completely with post-it notes. You can either spell out “Prom?” with the actual post-it notes themselves by alternating the colors or write on the post-it notes. This will take some time to cover their car so plan accordingly so you don’t get caught in the act.
17. A sweet surprise.
Bake or order a cake and two cupcakes. Have the cake say “Will you go to prom with me?” and have one cupcake say “Yes” and the other cupcake say “No”. Hopefully they will give you back the “Yes” cupcake indicating that they will go to prom with you.
18. Inception boxes.
Get a bunch of different sized boxes. In the smallest box put a note inside it asking the question. Wrap this box up and put it into a bigger box. Keep wrapping up the boxes and putting them into bigger boxes until you are left with one very big wrapped box. You can either choose to leave the big box on their front porch at their home addressed to them or give the box to them directly. In order for them to get to the small box asking them to prom they’ll have to open each box. It will take some time and keep them guessing along the way of what could possibly be in the end box.
Create a CD that has a selection of songs that either mean something to both of you as a couple or relates to dances and high school. Record the last track yourself asking them to go to prom with you. Make a note telling them that you’re favorite track is the last one so hopefully they will be eager to listen to it.
20. Drinks on me.
Show up to school with a Starbucks coffee drink. Have the barista at Starbucks write “Prom?” on the cup where they usually write the name. Give the drink to your potential date and make a reference to the “name”.
