Does it feel like worry and stress are gaining control over you, and as though your mind is constantly active just before drifting off to sleep? Perhaps you are thinking about the day’s activities as you start winding down, perhaps your anxiety comes from problems with your finances, issues associated with your household, employment or concern of what tomorrow has to offer.
With my little experience on sleep anxiety, I often find it incredibly difficult to entirely get rid of all the small details on my mind long enough for me to have a great sleep at night, and possibly you’re experiencing the same right now. On several occasions, this leads to tossing and turning as the psychological soccer match being played in my head kept going on as I constantly turned and tossed.
There is a number of different ways to prevent sleep anxiety to enable peaceful sleep.
The primary key here would be to uncover a technique that is perfect for you. The supreme aim is of course to clear the restlessness of the mind and start actively understanding that tomorrow is the perfect time to worry about issue burning you up because tonight it is time to rest.
Start practicing to write down each and every possible worries and anxieties you’ve got before you resign to your bed. Be sure you keep a laptop computer or miniature pad on your bedside that can be used for this vital purpose. In the form of points, start to list the things responsible for your anxiety and make special marks on those that you can possible handle tomorrow (ideally all). The psychological chatter happening in your head will be completely erased by your list, if you convince your-self that to-night really isn’t the time for these concerns.
After you have drafted out your list of worries, shut your laptop and tell yourself that you are not going to start thinking about these worries now until the right time, which of course is tomorrow. If you find yourself caught up in the sleep anxiety cycle during the nighttime, sit up and remind yourself one more time that tonight is for a peaceful sleep and not the time for being anxious. Doing this consistently will accustom your mind to the system when sleep time approaches.
Maintain a daily diary that features all of your fears and worries as well as your day’s events. Your day-to-day diary’s supreme aim is to ensure that all your worries are properly documented so that when nighttime comes it will be fairly easy to be free of them. As easy as this method is, it requires consistency but can serve as a tool that is strong enough to prevent sleep anxiety.
