I was at a local cafe with my Dad, each of us having a not-so-often, enjoyable Cappuccino. My Dad struck up a conversation with one of the cafe’s staff about local and world affairs and politics.
Both my Dad and the cafe staff member were calm, relaxed and interested in talking to each other about such broad topics.
However, what they managed to do was summarize the problems and issues, and even some solutions, locally and around the world, into about 10 minutes or so my Dad and I were there. Now when I say solutions these were good strong constructive solutions that acknowledged all people and parties involved.
I have listened to a lot of these small 10 minute Politics conversations and most end up finishing quickly with the same solutions provided.
It just shows what political leaders are doing that everyday people can sort things out in a matter of no time. Yes it is involved and complex to an extent, but if local and world affairs and politics cannot include things and decisions for the common good of everyone, in some way or another, then the 10 minute Politics will come in and be alive and well.
An example is the talk and decisions of the current Liberal party, and its Prime Minister Tony Abbott, at Federal Australian Politics.
The Liberals have shown their true colors in the short space of time they have been in power. This emphasizes why out of both Labor and Liberal major parties, Labor have time and time again been in power.
One has just to listen to the 10 minute Politics of today in Australia to realize what the Liberals have done, and are doing, to see that Labor will soon get back into power.
If and when Labor get back in, hopefully they have learned some valuable lessons from the Liberals, such as controlling over-spending and maintaining a, or some form or surplus, stopping party infighting and providing some solid party leadership.
It is interesting how the two proponents of the WorkChoices package which brought down the John Howard government, Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey, are now in power. From what the two have shown, God help the Australian people if they stay in power.
